Albert Irvin six paintings at the opening of Kings Place Gallery
Originate to have a continuous exhibitions programme by British national artists and to those with international reputation, Kings Place Gallery will also representing young, emerging artists.

One of the main exhibition at the opening of the gallery last October 1st, 2008 is an exhibition of six paintings by British artist Albert Irvin.

Once described as powerful manifestations of the Abstract Sublime in his paintings, Irvin’s monumental paintings are filled with blazing hues, energy, diversity and restlessly dynamic architecture spaces.

His exploration of a “non-representational” painting expression reflected through an overlapping crosses of squares, circles and lines. After his conversion to abstraction in the mid1950’s, his large colour saturated canvases derive from his experience of movements and time.

The paintings in this exhibition reflect Irvin’s belief that “starting a new painting is like going for a walk without knowing where you are going: it’s an adventure, where anything could happen.”
