Inspired by the carpet tiles at the Morgans Hotel in New York, a project designed by Agence Andrée Putman, these ceramics, with their fine texture and play of graduated light, are infused with a feeling of comfort.

Putman feels that they represent a meandering path, a textile environment, an imaginary chessboard that reflects life itself. Offered in 59.4 cm x 59.4 cm and 29.6 cm x 59.4 cm and in a linear mosaic, the Powder collection is available in five tones of grège. Juxtaposed, the tiles give the illusion of a carpeted surface, metamorphosing the ambience of the space: a kitchen becomes warm and inspiring, while maintaining its sense of efficiency and practicality.

Andrée Putman

Married to art critic Jacques Putman, Andrée Putman first studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris. Dissatisfied, she moved on to style and prêt-à-porter. She then made her name in the Mafia style agency and was recruited by Didier Grumbach to found the company Créateurs et Industriel.

Finally, she launched her own agency, Écart International, which, 20 years later, became her current company, Agence Andrée Putman. Putman’s mission is to make life easier for people and to add fantasy to their lives.

“The idea that floats behind all of my work,” she notes, “is reconciliation – to eliminate all barriers between people.”

Putman’s career began to take off when she was 53 years old, and New Yorkers were the first to see her artistry thanks to her highly acclaimed design of the Morgans Hotel in New York, executed in 1984. Her main clients are hotels (Ritz Carlton, Sheraton, Putman Hong Kong) and boutiques (Anne Fontaine, Spa Gerlain); she has also worked on the Stade de France and, recently, the Hilliana Tower in Dubai.
