Anger, joy and sadness of J.R. Houbrick creations
Working from a studio in rural Loxahatchee, Florida, J.R. Houbrick is an artist who marches to the beat of his own, a distinctive drummer.

Influenced by Abstract Expressionism and German Expressionism, Houbrick paints with the spontaneous wit of a man who enjoys life and understands his unique place in the world.

Driven by a passion to “let the muse be heard,” Houbrick’s imagination is one of his greatest assets, and he allows himself to freely express a wide array of emotions when he paints.

Anger, joy and sadness all play a part in his creations, as evidenced by the variety of characters and objects that inhabit his work.

From animals performing amazing feats to tubular constructs mined from deep within his psyche, Houbrick displays a deep disregard for “technique” or medium, preferring to let the paint flow as it may until he is convinced that the muse has been satisfied – even as his use of color and composition have become more sophisticated and complex.
