Bodypainting, an ancient tribalist art goes to modern usage
Body painting, or sometimes written bodypainting is a form of body art. This art activity was known for centuries among the indigenous people of Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific islands and parts of Africa.
There is also a semi-permanent form of body painting known as Mehndi, using dyes made of henna (hence also known rather erroneously as “henna tattoo”), was and is still widely practised in India and the Middle East, especially for the brides.

To name one of the modern bodypainting leading artist, Joanne Gair is the one. Her famous act is when doing the painting for the August 1992 Vanity Fair Demi’s Birthday Suit cover. Her works also appeared for the tenth consecutive year in the 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Bodypainting also being used as an illustration for advertising purposes, like the animals images on the AT&T advertisement.

And last week, the fifth International Bodypainting Festival was held in the city of Mainz, Germany. Below are some of the bodypainting works from the event.
