Bonjour, is it a spyware or not
My friends, if you are previously installed the latest AVG software or other internet firewall security, you may have experience a pop-up warning message that a program called Bonjour and its mDNSResponder.exe is running and trying to connect to the internet.
I never found this kind of message before although I have itunes version 5.0 long before I’m installing AVG 8.0.131 and from the google groups, I get information that Bonjour and/or Rendezvous zero configuration networking is an apple software.
So what is Bonjour? Bonjour is Apple’s proposed new industry standard for automatic discovery of computers, devices, and services on IP networks, used by ITunes for music sharing.
Also known as zero-configuration networking or Zeroconf, Bonjour uses industry standard IP protocols to allow devices to automatically find each other without the need to enter IP addresses or configure DNS servers. More informations about Bonjour can be found here.
Is it dangerous or a spyware? Some said it was definetely a spyware and apple is at fault that installed Bonjour without your complete knowledge or permission. So, dangerous or not I just tell my AVG to block it anyway, because I don’t share informations and don’t want anyone sending me any iTunes package.
What if you want to remove this kind of software? Information from Jen, a member of google groups, said that one of Bonjour file, Mdnsnsp.dll is a Layered Service Provider(LSP), so be wary of it, make sure you get Lspfix before trying to remove it.
