Robots in the future will be entirely replaced human physic activities and make us lazier than before, and today when I was wandering through the world wide web forests looking for any interesting stuff for my blog post and stumbled on an article about robots.

The article that I read was about Care-O-Bot 3, the latest generation of Care-O-Bot series from Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA). And the first robot that caught my eyes was two exposition robots that were installed at Opel in Berlin to entertain and give information to the visitors of this car exposition in between October 2003 and October 2004.

Just to refresh your memory, the first robot is called MONA (”Multifunktionale Opel Navigatorin) a female robot navigator that operates mainly in the operation mode “Guidance to the Exposition Area”.

And the other one is OSKAR (”Opel Systemkreation aus Raisselsheim”) a male species robot that loves to entertain the visitors with its “Animation” operation mode. OSKAR drives around in the exposition area along the main display window.

So, what about Care-O-Bot? This robot was first developed in 1998 as a mobile robot assistant to help elder humans who need care and support to remain independent for longer in their familiar surroundings. But for the third edition of Care-O-bot® 3, it combines numerous innovations from the fields of control, sensors and kinematics so they can also represent an enrichment of day-to-day life for everyone.

Care-O-bot® 3 is equipped with a highly flexible, commercial arm with seven degrees of freedom as well as with a three-finger hand. This makes it capable of gripping and operating a large number of different everyday objects.

A force-torque sensor provides the robot with feedback from its environment as well as from the humans with whom it is interacting, while a multiplicity of sensors enables Care-O-bot® 3 to detect the environment in which it is operating.
