Exploring the next planet for human to (possibly) live in
Mars, the fourth planet from the Sun in our solar system, named after Mars, the Roman god of war. Also referred to as the “Red Planet” because of its reddish appearance. A terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere.

Scientists have long speculated about the possibility of life on Mars owing to the planet’s proximity and similarity to Earth. It remains an open question whether life exists on Mars now, or existed there in the past.


The Phoenix mission landed a telerobot in the polar region of Mars on May 25, 2008. One of the mission’s two primary objectives is to search for a ‘habitable zone’ in the Martian regolith where microbial life could exist.


In the future, NASA is planning to launch the Astrobiology Field Laboratory in 2016, to help answer questions about life on Mars.
