The idea behind Goal4Africa is simple but powerful. Inspired by two major events: Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday, on 18 July 2008, and the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, in 2010. Goal4Africa is all about building a legacy for the future of Africa by bringing together two great forces, Education and Football.

Nelson Mandela 90th birthday was chosen as one of the inspiration behind this campaign because he has devoted his life to promoting freedom and civil society in Africa through social development and schooling with his motto “Education 4 All, All 4 Education”.

Goal4Africa is trying to create a global awareness to raise funds for educational and development programmes, and to promote the development of football, throughout the African continent.

In a wider sense, the campaign also want to contribute to an African Legacy Programme that promote peacebuilding and nation-building, help to alleviate poverty, and support economic development and opportunities.

Goal4Africa firmly supports the United Nations’ Millennium Goals for 2015; specifically committed to leaving an enduring positive effect on the whole African continent.

The possibilities are endless. It’s all about the thrill of the game – and the commitment to build a better future for Africa’s children. Through Goal4Africa, it is just a small and simple step to go from the excitement of scoring in a football match to achieving their shared goals for making a better world.
