IMAGES is an awards book and touring exhibition, now in it’s 34th year. Annually distributed, free, to over 4000 commissioners, the Images book is considered British illustration’s most important document.
Each year the contents are selected from hundreds of entries of nine influential figures in the creative industry – art directors from advertising, periodical and book publishing, illustrators’ agents and practicing illustrators.
The featured work is by artists at all levels of experience and covers all the fields in which illustration is commissioned or inspired.

If you are a commissioner and your company’s budget won’t cover submissions, why not inform the illustrators you commissioned so that your joint projects may still be featured.
Hugely discounted entry fees for AOI Full members!
We have kept the entry fees for AOI Full members close to the slashed rate from last year’s Images. It’s now only £20 per entry – the perfect excuse to enter even more of the great work you’ve produced since January 2008.
Associate and Corporate members have also had their entry fees reduced. Entering Images is a fantastic opportunity. If selected by the esteemed jury your work will be promoted to 4000 commissioners through the Images annual, displayed at the London exhibition in 2010, and may travel the UK as part of the Images tour through 2011. It’ll also give you a warm, proud glow to know that your best work is being seen by your peers in the illustration and design industry.
This year we have kept New Media and Children’s Books as additional categories, so work commissioned for video, film and television; animation; character development and interactive design now have their own section, along with images for children’s books, jackets and interior illustrations.
The Images annual continues to evolve into an ever more exciting publication and the current Images 33 annual – best of British illustration 2009, art directed by renowned designer and writer Adrian Shaughnessy, will be published in August 2009.
A special section features the work of students and recent graduates. Award winners in this section will receive the Images New Talent Refresh! Award. This is sponsored by The Coningsby Gallery and worth Gold: £500, Silver: £250 and Bronze: £150. All student award winners will be given a year’s free, unlimited use of mailing lists produced by the AOI.
