Maybe some of you have never know that whales, dolphins and porpoises are also the holders of the animal kingdom world records. A total of 81 different species of these amazing mammals are currently recognized by scientists, and new species are still being discovered until now.

Numbers of cetacean species have been split in recent years, for example, a common dolphin was officially separated into two distinct species, the long-beaked common dolphin and the short-beaked common dolphin. Today, I want to share a few examples of the world record that belongs to cetacean.

Recorded by scientist in 1991, the deepest known dive by a male sperm whale (Physeter Macrocephalus) was 6,560 feet (2,000 m) while diving off the coast of Dominica, in the Caribbean. Although never been recorded before, scientists are believe that the sperm whale can dive up to 10,000 feet deep into the ocean floor.
