Today I have an email from my friend Jordy Fu, who was commissioned by the Southbank Centre to design cloud chandeliers lamps for Royal Festival Hall in London this Christmas.

The Cloud Chandeliers are the larger versions of Jordy’s Cloud Lamps and located in the main foyer area for the event ‘In from the Cold’ a five weeks free event of music, film and dance at The Royal Festival Hall in London, UK which runs between 11 Dec 08 – 12 Jan 09.

The chandeliers are named ‘Allegro’, ‘Adagio’ and ‘Vivace’, inspired by the sight, sound and motion in and around the South Bank Centre. ‘Allegro’ is located at the entrance of the Ballroom, represents the happiness of us taking part in the variety of events at the Southbank centre.

‘Adagio’ is about dreams, gentle and slow, inspire imaginations, located in the middle of the ballroom, and ‘Vivace’ is located above the stage in the Ballroom, it’s the passion for arts, music and dance.

These delicate chandeliers are clouds floating over the northern light and iced floors, the form is bold gigantic, and fluid but their structure are remains super light.

Cloud Lamp Story

201AD, the Chinese invented paper, a marvelous material with a complex character; for thousands of years we used paper to write, paint and communicate our thoughts, dreams and desires. Paper – cutting is a unique art form, Chinese women use this graceful and intricate media to record the joy and surprises of their lives and decorate homes.

Yu Jordy Fu has developed this ancient technique to create expressive and elaborate forms which break free from the two dimensional realm to a dreamlike three-dimensional landscape.
