The humanized abstract space of Hollis Cooper
Born in 1976 in Jackson, Mississippi, Hollis Cooper grew up in New Orleans and Houston before moving to New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, and finally California.

Hollis received her undergraduate degree with high honors from Princeton University, a Post-Baccalaureate certificate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and an M.F.A. from Claremont Graduate University.
While working for her art work and installations, she always been interested in the idea of space, and how we define and use that term. Hollis sees the space as a fluid concept, that moving in between something completely abstract.

All of her works both in paintings and installations, are within those multi-dimensional approach. But mostly, the final results are stronger in whatever form it takes. Although parts of her installation source material and process are digitally-driven, she wants all viewers to see the images that have been humanized by her own involvement and interpretation.

Her work of arts are also have received several awards, such a Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant Award nomination from the CGU Art Department in 2006, and in 2007 was selected for the Drawing Center’s Viewing Program in NYC. When she is not in the studio, Hollis teaches in the Art Department at California State University, San Bernardino.
Hollis latest art and installation work can be seen in the Infrastructure at Wignall Museum, Chaffey College, curated by Roman Stollenwerk, starting from October 20 to November 19, 2008.
