The passion in Mayumi Haryoto illustrations
As far as she can remember, she started drawing ever since a kid, but it’s been on and off, especially during her high school years.

That time no one could gave her a nice realistic picture about what is like being an illustrator, or what kind of industry she would dealing with by being an illustrator.
“My teachers and old folks say I’d end up making comic books, or end up being a street artist making photo illustration.” Said Mayumi.
Mayumi thinks that’s one of the biggest problem in Indonesian education system, there’s no communication between the academic people and the practitioners, and I would say that I also agree with her
.

For that reasons she took a graphic design course and aimed for working in advertising agency. It seems like it was the biggest goal for anyone who passionate in creative world here in Indonesia.
“But I was wrong. I dislike working in ad agency. That’s why I quit and it took quite sometime for me to finally discover my old passion again.”
Being a pro if we’re in a business deal, Mayumi thought in overall she still have this sort of bad self-esteem about her stuffs sometimes, because she feels been too late to start this thing up.

As an artist herself, She also enjoy the works of John John Jesse, Audrey Kawasaki, Chris Ware, Tomer Hanuka, Yuko Shimizu, and many more. Enjoying her work on this page? Check out Mayumi’s website to see more.

She’s quite a local celebrity in Indonesia. A talented illustrator…and rather mysterious.
