The world great subway station architecture and interior
According to wikipedia, more than 160 cities have rapid transit systems, totaling of more than 8,000 km (4,900 miles) of track and 7,000 stations. And the oldest rapid transit system among them all is the London Underground, which opened in 1863 as the Metropolitan Railway.
The first underground railway in the world was the Metropolitan Railway, now part of the London Underground. London’s system was proposed by Charles Pearson, as part of a city improvement plan, after the Thames Tunnel opened. Construction began in 1860 and was complete in 1863.
Today, I have compiled some great photos of subway stations around the world that I think have great architectural and interior design. These photos are belongs to the original owner as noted below the picture.

The architecture is stunning. South Africa does not have an underground system as yet. Our first partially underground system is called ‘Gautrain’ and it will be up and running in time for the World Cup 2010. This service will connect Johannesburg to Pretoria.
