Born in Bombay in 1966, Tushar Joag describes himself as a public intervention artist. Received Bachelor’s degree from the Sir J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai, in 1988 before completed a Master’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda in the next year.

Tushar has been involved in many art and painting exhibitions in Italy, Thailand, China, and India. His artist’s solo shows include “Willing Suspension” at Gallery Chemould, Mumbai, in 2005 and “Reconciliation and Truth” at Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai, in 2008.

As an artist, he was deeply aware of the problems and tensions of contemporary urban life. All his works carry strong social message and issues prevalent in our society including the corruption of the judiciary, political hierarchy and disparity of wealth.

His 2008 installation works titled “The Enlightening Army Of The Empire” comprising a set of 16 robotic figures that made from perspex, plastic, brass, mild steel, wood, electric bulbs, wire and mixed media. Each of his robotic figure has the size of approximately 183×49x61cm each.
